Our Story

Bahay Namin

We are Sheila & Steve.  We are an adventurous couple who love to spend time outdoors in nature doing fun things together, like hiking, biking, running, skiing, fishing, stand-up paddle boarding, you name it.  We have a goofball black Labrador Retriever (who doesn't always retrieve) named Archer.

We found our slice of the American dream just 30 minutes north of New York City.  Four and a half acres of secluded woodland nestled on top of a mountain with seasonal views of the mighty Hudson River.  On this land, we are going to build ourselves a sustainable, Earth-friendly, energy-efficient modern home.  On this blog, I will be posting (fairly regular) updates on our house-building progress.

We are super excited about this adventure, and so happy you're joining us for the ride.  If you enjoy a post, please feel free to click on the ❤️ at the bottom.  If you have any questions or comments, please use the comment box.

Fun Fact:  I was born in the Philippines.  Bahay Namin means "our house" in Tagalog, a Philippine dialect.  The title of this blog is a salute to my heritage.

THE PROJECT:
To build a sustainable, Earth-friendly, energy-efficient modern home that captures the full potential of its location, while staying within our budget.

THE PROPERTY:
Just 30 minutes north of New York City.

THE PROBLEM:
The pandemic pause.
