Mini Model

Creating this model was a fun family crafting project. It's supposedly a quarter inch scale. We added 'glass' windows (silver poster board) and wood slats (scored a sheet of balsa wood) for some exterior cladding options.

Meet the family.

Testing the direction of the early spring sun.

Steve showing Kacia how to measure.

Here's the guide they're using for the mini model.

The Ground Level

The ground level has a three car garage, a full bathroom (easiest access for soaking wet swimmers from the pool), a large family room for watching TV together, utility room for the noisy unsightly machines that work the house, a gym for the treadmill and free weights, and an outdoor storage space for winterizing the patio furniture.

Steve wants to install a glass door between the family room and garage - so he can ogle at his future Tesla while he's watching football. I think he also mentioned a glass auto showroom type door that is big enough for him to drive his vehicle directly into the family room, so he can bond even closer with his beloved automotive family in a temperature controlled environment. Riiight....

Ground level

The covered deck will have an outdoor bar/grill area on the left side, next to Steve's office. (Wait a minute... I just realized he must've done that on purpose! LOL) On the right side will be covered seating and an outdoor fireplace. So we can still gather around an outdoor fire even if its raining or snowing. I imagine we will be spending a ton of time hanging out there.

Main level.

The Main Level

The main entrance is located on this level. You enter directly into the great room with 20' foot high ceilings, lots of glass for the big view, and a balcony overlooking from the upstairs bedrooms floor.

To the right is the kitchen/dining area which will also have lots of glass for the big view. The pantry is right off the kitchen.

My office is in the front right corner, sharing a half bath with the rest of the house. It will have a separate parking spot and public entrance for all my future health & wellness coaching clients. So exciting!

Located to the left side of the great room is a glass hallway that leads to the master bedroom wing. The master bedroom has a fireplace, an ensuite bathroom and a walk in closet large enough for two. Complete with laundry units. The master bedroom room has one glass wall facing the river view. It will have a stand alone bathtub as a center piece.

The ensuite bathroom will have a sliding glass door looking out over a water feature. It will still be private somehow. There's a glass shower enclosure that doubles as a steam room. And a separate throne room with a door, a can of febreeze, and plenty of ventilation. Off the master bath will a private outdoor shower area, for coming back from the pool, or bathing a big muddy dog.

The Bedroom Level - Second Floor

Meanwhile, everyone else can go... I mean the kids rooms are on the other side of the house and upstairs. They'll have their own bathroom and laundry station.

Second floor - bedrooms.

Latest Update: We've since decided to create 3 bedrooms instead of 2. Unless a twin gives up their room for people staying over, we need a separate guest room. Besides, my mom would love to have her own room when she visits.

Here's the finished mini model, complete with imaginary lawn and pastel blue skies.

FRONT ELEVATION

Steve has been working on Chief Architect software to create the virtual images of our house. I'll be sharing a post on that soon!
