Unpause

Hello again! It is nice to be back on track to building bahay namin :: our house. So much has happened in our lives, in our world, since last winter. We've been trying to get all our economic ducks to waddle in a row.

Entering November, we have officially hit the unpause button.

It's time to add utilities to our property.

Last week, Steve lined up three potential companies to install our temporary electricity. He cautioned how amazed I was about to be with the price swing between all three.

Here's what Steve had to say:

1. DiLeonardo Electric

The first guy was Joe DiLeonardo Junior. Nice guy. They've been in business in Rockland County for a long time. Their father owns the business. He and his sister run the company now. He said we do not have secondary power lines running through the neighborhood, only primary. So we need to have a transformer installed on the pole across the street, which O&R will charge the customer. I don't know why I have to pay for O&R's infrastructure, but that is something we'll discuss with O&R. Joe Jr. said he would install a mast and a temporary service panel on our property, run the service line from the pole to the panel, run a line from the panel to wherever we need on the property, by the trailer and down at the house location. He said he'd provide us with a quote within the next day. Which he did. The whole experience with DiLeonardo was professional.

2. EZ Electric

The second guy was Manny. Same thing, said there was no secondary line, primary only, and we'll require a transformer. But Manny went into more detail about how O&R may want to run the transformer for the property, depending on how far the house is located from the pole. Meaning, if the transformer was installed on the pole and the house was located too far away from the transformer, there wouldn't be adequate power to the house. It would be best to discuss the house location with O&R and perhaps have the transformer installed on the lot rather than on the pole. He went into more detail regarding the service to the property. He also said that he would provide me with a quote within a few days. His office did reach out to me the same day for information to get the paperwork going with O&R. I already did personally, so it wasn't necessary to give information. I do need to call their office and let them know I did that so they can send me the proposal for the temporary service. It's kinda up in the air as to where O&R will put the transformer.

3. Valvo

The third contractor was Steve Valvo. Nice guy. He instructed me to fill out the application with O&R first and gave me some information I need in order to do that. After the application was done, he would meet with O&R on-site to determine what type of service, or what type of transformer is needed, then he would provide me with a quote.

Conclusion

Three different contractors had three different approaches to what I needed. They were all equally qualified. EZ Electric did one thing differently. He said he'd send me proposals for homes of comparable sizes so I can see what he charges and that he bases his costs on unit prices. That is something I agree with. Transparency and fairness.
